Samsung's foldable smartphone may launch at CES 2019; first batch could be limited to 500,000 units

The much anticipated Samsung Galaxy Xwith a flexible screen is likely to launch soon. The device is expected to change the direction of design for smartphones, while also pushing smartphone makers to innovate. DJ Koh, CEO of the SamsungMobile Division, has now confirmed the arrival of this new mobile with a foldable screen at CES 2019 in Las Vegas. According to previous reports, it was rumored that the new foldable smartphone from Samsung would be presented to the market at the San Francisco Developers Conference in November this year. But now it seems that the company would take more time to match the sales demand at the start, and make sure everything goes their way.
A known leaker on Chinese Social Network Weibo has now revealed that current folding screen technology by Samsung is not perfect for mass production and consumer sales. This comes along with Samsung’s monopoly issues on its foldable flexible screen. Hence this has resulted in the delay of the launch of the Samsung foldable smartphone, which has been re-scheduled to CES 2019, for now.

For the first batch, shipments of the foldable smartphone will reportedly be limited to 500,000 units, and it will later be increased in production. According to reports, the foldable smartphone by Samsung will be equipped with a 4.6-inch external screen, and a 7.3-inch foldable internal screen. This means that while the device is retracted to its smaller size, it would look like a 7.3-inch mobile phone, and when the external 4.6-inch screen is opened, it will look similar to a 10-inch tablet.
This comes right after Richard Yu, the CEO for Huawei Consumer Business Group announced that even Huawei is working on the development of a 5G-based foldable smartphone. The company plans to launch the device in the middle of next year. Recent reports have stated that Huawei s first foldable phone could have a 7-inch or 8-inch display size, and it would its first 5G Phone.
