NEW DELHI: There are two sides to every coin, and two versions of every story, so what’s the deal with 
electric vehicles
? No doubt India's ambitious plan to push zero pollution vehicles over petrol and diesel engines has provided a much-needed opportunity for the electric vehicle manufacturers to roll out more advanced models. And as such, the makers not only upgraded models look-wise but also technology wise.

Two of the major concerns of the people opting for electric vehicles were the range anxiety and a very low top speed (25kmph in case of electric scooters). But now, with the advancement of electric vehicle technology manufacturers are offering a better range and top speed (over 45kmph) for their 
electric scooters
. Along with it they are also offering at least 2-3 years of warranty on the battery.

Now, for an average modern electric scooter, according to the range and electricity consumed per charge, runs 70 kilometres in just Rs 10 which is much less as compared to a petrol powered scooter.


Here are five such electric scooters that can replace your petrol-powered scooters:

Ather recently begun deliveries of its electric scooter Ather 450 to a few selected customers in Bengaluru. The company has also set up private charging stations at the residences of those customers. It is also offering a subscription plan, Ather One, which covers data costs, charging costs both at home and in public and it includes doorstep service of the vehicles and cost of common spare parts. Ather 450 can accelerate 40kmph in 3.9 seconds.

It also offers features like parking assist and a seven-inch touchscreen dashboard that allows onboard navigation.

Ather provides a battery pack warranty for three years. 
Price: Rs 1.24 lakh

Maximum speed: 80kmph

Battery range: 75 kilometres

Charging time: 4 hours/ fast charging 1km per minute

HERO ELECTRIC.  

PHOTON

This one is Hero's 'high speed' scooter that comes in two drive modes, power, and economy. The Photon is available in two different variants based on its battery range. The Photon has features such as a mobile charging point, anti-theft alarm and a remote lock.

Price: Rs 84,490 (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Maximum speed: 45kmph

Battery range: Power Mode - 85km /charge, Economy Mode - 110km/charge

Charging time: 6-8 hours (normal charging)

This Indian two-wheeler manufacturer also offers cheaper but slower variant touted the 'Photon 72 V'.

Homegrown electric two-wheeler maker Twenty Two Motors launched the country's first cloud-connected electric scooter, the Flow at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi.

In terms of design, the Flow stands out with an unique and futuristic body design. Its 90Nm DC motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery that can be charged up to 70 per cent using a fast charger, in just one hour. 
Price: Rs 74,740 (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Maximum speed: 60 km/h

Battery range: 160 kms


Charging time: 5 hours (normal charging)

Powered by a brushless DC hub motor in combination with a lithium-ion battery, the Hero Nyx E5 is an electric scooter with a top speed of 45kmph. This visually uncomplicated two-wheeler adds a dose of practicality as it comes with a split seat setup that allows one to flip the rear seat for carrying some extra luggage or use it as a backrest. Hero offers a three-year assured warranty on the battery.

Maximum speed: 45kmph

Battery range: 50km

Charging time: 4 hours (normal charging)

Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturing company Okinawa offers two electric scooters namely 'Praise' and 'Ridge' in India. The recently launched Praise has a company claimed the running cost of 10 paise/km. The scooter is available in three body-colour combinations. The Praise offers a host of features like a digital speedometer, central locking with anti-theft alarm, keyless entry, find my scooter function, mobile charging USB port, motor walking assistance (front/reverse motion) and LED (light emitting diode) headlight with daytime running lights. 
Price: Rs 59,889 (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Maximum speed: 75kmph

Battery range: 170-200km/ full charge

Charging time: Lead-acid battery 6- 8 hrs / Lithium-ion battery 1-2 hrs
